As a convert to Catholicism, I'm certain this book is going to do a lot of good for many people. Catholics, non-Catholics, atheists, and everyone in between will discover in these pages honest, insightful, respectful, and well-documented answers about the Catholic Church and its teachings. Grounded in faith, reason, and the author's own personal love for Jesus Christ, How Can You Still Be Catholic? is a tremendous resource for us all! - Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC, author of Champions of the Rosary: The History and Heroes of a Spiritual Weapon When I have a question about Church doctrine, history, or culture, I know I can turn to my friend Chris Sparks for a clear and enlightening answer. With this book, Chris's extraordinary wisdom is no longer just a personal resource for his friends and family but for everyone who sincerely seeks the truth. - Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, author of 33 Days to Morning Glory: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat In Preparation for Marian ConsecrationHave questions about the Catholic faith? Christopher Sparks has answers. Catholics and non-Catholics alike will find clarity and understanding in How Can You Still Be Catholic? An excellent read for doubters, skeptics, and all those just wanting to understand what the Church teaches and why. - Emily Stimpson, author of These Beautiful Bones: An Everyday Theology of the BodyI love learning about the faith. It was this type of book that helped me enter the Catholic Church in Easter of 1999. I kind of wished this was published back then, but Chris likely wasn't born yet. There are so many misunderstandings and stereotypes about Catholicism. Chris Sparks tackles them one after the other. Whether you are a recent convert, looking into the Catholic faith, a cradle Catholic, or some random person checking religious books out, this has a lot you can get your teeth into. Keep enjoying the journey. - Chris Padgett, author of I'm Not OK. You're Not OK. But It's OK.Christopher Sparks has given us a gift: a testimony to the goodness and beauty of Jesus Christ, still present in His Body, the Church, and still giving His gentle and moving grace in this dark age. When so many inside the Church hide His face and so many outside the Church can therefore not see Him, Chris Sparks bears witness as an apostle should. - Mark P. Shea, author of By What Authority?: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition

About the Author

Christopher Sparks has a BA in history and philosophy from Gonzaga University, and an MA in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He has written for Catholic Exchange, Lay Witness magazine, and various publications by the Marian Fathers. He blogs at attheturnofthetide.blogspot.com Sparks' interest in defending the Catholic faith began as an attempt to find out whether or not it was true. The best way to test it seemed to be to hear the objections of those who attacked it and then to find out if there was any response. After years of pursuing such objections, he came to the conclusion that it was true, largely based on the two points identified by Cardinal Ratzinger as the only two real defenses of the faith: the witness of the lives of the saints and the tremendous contributions of the Catholic Church and her members to human culture.

I purchased this book for two reasons. One, because the reviews that I read were all 5 star. Second, because I wanted a book that I could hand to all those people in life that we talk to in casual conversation, or perhaps family members and friends that now consider themselves a "recovering Catholic" and have left the faith and wonder how you could possibly still be Catholic. I had hoped that the book would not only have presented "dogma" but would have considered the daily life of so many people and their experiences with the Church that made them leave. While the author has perfectly covered the dogma part, I personally had hoped for a more practical approach that I could share with those around me. While I think the author is very informed, I found the answers at times to come across as condescending. In my opinion, if you want to preach to the choir...this book is great. If you want to use the book to help those who have fallen away...I feel this is not going to have much success.

This is a great, respectful way to discuss the Catholic Church and it's role todayChristopher has a great way of communicating that gets information thru any emotional blocksto accurate info....you want this book if you are a 'retired' Catholic or married to a Catholic - will bevery helpful

For Catholics and non-Catholics. Each question is answered in 2 to 4 pages.

I just finished reading this wonderful book. Wow! Christopher Sparks gives complete yet succinct answers to difficult questions about Catholicism. He is an engaging, readable writer, and is highly skilled at bringing depth and light to often troubling issues and misconceptions surrounding the Catholic faith. There is grace and truth in his answers, and he includes a fantastic, well-organized, recommended reading section for those who wish to delve deeper into any particular question. He selected excellent resources, and added a second appendix of Catholic Basics, a glossary, and an end-notes section. If anyone is ready and willing to hear the (sometimes) hard truths of the faith, this is the book for them. Whether a searching soul or a seasoned Catholic, there is something new to be learned in these pages, and insights in the answers to every single question. Highly recommend.

This is a great book for Catholics and non-Catholics alike because it takes on the main issues of our society as well as issues that people have with the Catholic Church. Chris Sparks addresses these in an easy to read manner - humble yet straight forward and unapologetic about Catholic apologetics on these important topics. This would be a great book for Confirmation and high school/college students as well as for RCIA classes. The chapters are short and concise and the author provides an extensive recommended reading list addressing each topic as well as citations and other relevant information in his appendix. It is book I can and will refer back to often when conversing about these topics with others. I have no reservations in recommending this most informative book.

Many people have problems with many aspects of Catholicism, from why women cannot be priests to why homosexuality is considered immoral. Christopher Sparks turned to Facebook to get the questions people have and then answered them in: How Can You Still Be Catholic? It's a wonderful little book and reminds me always by this quote by Ap. Fulton Sheen: “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” I recommend this both for Catholics and non-Catholics because so many Catholics do not know why the Church teaches what she does.
