I read this book on a recommendation, and was glad I did. To be honest, I was a little hesitant at first as I am not particularly into the occult, and in some ways the genre has been way overdone. Occult Assassin is a refreshing mixture of genres and different elements (occult, technology, revenge, horror, some military action) that Massa blends well. The story comes out of the gate FAST and with a few exceptions, the pace does not let up. One of the most fun things about this entertaining read is that some of the main genre elements come into play as the story unfolds. So, as the plot unfolds, you're taken along on a genre-compounding ride. It makes for an original read, which I like and appreciate. I'm looking forward to reading more of Massa's work and seeing how Mark Talon further develops as protagonist. Definitely recommended.
This is the first book in a while that I actually finished in one day - due in part to the length and in part to the fact that I simply enjoyed it.The first book in this series does exactly what it should do. It gives you just enough background to understand the characters and not bog you down with needless information. The action is tight and not overbearing. What do I mean by that? Well, it’s the way that I feel the entire book is…it’s “just right†in length by not being overdone just so there can be a higher word count, the action is “just right†in that it doesn’t go on for endless pages and exhausting the reader, and the characters are done so that you recognize and know them without all the needless overly done details that, again, are often done simply for word count.If you like action-adventure and want a bit of occult and magic thrown in then this is one you have to try. Think of Mack Bolan meeting Harry Dresden type of setting. Sure Mack has met Occult groups in The Executioner series, but those didn’t have any actual demons coming into the world, whereas this series allows those demons to come in and wreak havoc on our hero.Simple, easy, and enjoyable read. Great for a Sunday afternoon in the hammock.
This time around Mark Talon and Casca go up against Omnicron (Think an Evil APPLE Corp...) a Technology Company that is mixing Ancient Evil with 21st Century Technology, by creating code into their products and gadgets.Silicon Valley turns into Hell on Earth!Another great episode in the Occult Assassin Series!
Book was descriptive enough to recognize some tactics from military channels, would have appreciated a bit more fleshing out of what's being done, but the pace and flow was going so well I didn't dwell on it till after I finished. Looking forward to next book in the series. Will check out more books by the author...if all are as well written as this I will not have any problems filling my spare time for a little while :)
Damnation Code was a very fast paced military thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it reminded me of the TV show 'The Following', dealing with the whole cult/mass killing scenario powered by one man. Our hero, Talon, is definitely one to root for and the idea of a large technology corporation being the source of these cult members is definitely a fun and interesting twist. I'm very much looking forward reading more from Massa and will definitely read all of the books in this series!As for the narration, I thought James Foster did a fine job. I'm not too keen on his character voices, but his narration otherwise is superb.
This was so good that I immediately downloaded the second book. I love anything paranormal. I also have a very soft spot for our nation's military. You put the two together and you have my number.This main character is now former military, leaving the service he loved to look for whomever killed his fiancée whom he loved more. I cried with him. I could feel his pain. It was so well written that his emotions float from words on a page to feelings in your own soul. Anyone who has lost someone will recognize those feelings. You won't be able to help it, and you will want the justice he seeks.Then things start to get a little weird. A lot weird, but it also seems plausible. Could it happen? Could our society go to that point?It'll make you think twice the next time you pick up your smartphone.The characters are well developed and realistic. The story is thought provoking and frightening. The book does not end with a cliffhanger.I highly recommend this book. It's fascinating and really will make you think.
Give this book 4-stars,would have gave it five stars if it had had more substance and was longer other than that from the first chapter the author grabs you with the character of Talon a guy really trying to turn his back on violence,Darkness doesn't want him to leave so they kill his fiance and he takes vengeance upon them,this is the first book I read by this author and it was a pretty great book.I look forward to checking out other books from him if you like action packed suspense / horror books is book is for you,it's short and to the point not a lot of filler,you won't be disappointed and there's three more books in the series if you like 1.
