Lumiere Autochrome images are not well-known, particularly in the U.S. The Lumiere Brothers are better known for their ground-breaking motion photography. They got out of that business fairly early on to concentrate on their color photo process. Complicated and a bit fussy processing created magical images that are wonderfully reproduced in this book. The history and detailed description of the process make for an fascinating tale of creativity in the industrial and fine arts. The authors are to be commended for the completeness and readability of the book. But then again, you could be pulled in by the the photos, alone.
A very informative book on the origin and genesis of the autochrome, wonderfully documented and with many exceptional photographs and autochrome reproductions. For those who seek a grounding in color photography, this is your book!
