It is short enough that can read it at the stoplight on your way to the coffee shop, where upon arrival at said coffe shop you will then be motivated to knock out that huge pile of reading and work that you've been meaning to get to.Embry does an excellent job of showing how all change comes from a deepening understanding of the salvation of Christ and living out of the changes that understanding creates in the heart. Faith in the gospel re-structures our motivations, our self-understanding, our identity, and our view of the world. Behavioral compliance to rules without heart-change will be superficial and fleeting.Did I mention that you should buy this book? Buy this book. It'll cost you less and take less time to finish than the latte you are about to order.Perhaps the highlight of Embry's work is how he unfolds this ugly truth: laziness knows how to want. Laziness wants but it never delivers. Laziness, like sin, is never satisfied. This is a powerful and incredibly threatening insight. Buy the book...Embry's enjoyable little work is a good reminder that the way we live reflects whether or not we know that God has been gracious to us in Christ. We live by grace or we live by works. And if the former, the result is gratitude in the on-going kindness of God, which leads to a fruitful life. Adam Embry's small book is an excellent resource for those that seriously desire to kill sin in their lives. He writes well, moving from the biblical text to practical examples to clarify and convict. He correctly identifies the root of laziness and shows how foundational and long-lasting change can only be accomplished through the reversal of sin's effects through the Gospel. After laying the theological groundwork, he helps guide the readers to identify and change areas of laziness in whatever life situation they find themselves (husband, mother, single, elderly, etc.).This book will be an asset to me as I fight the sin of laziness. It will also undoubtedly be a helpful resource to put in the hands of others in counseling or other church life situations.
